The Motifs

The Gentleman

The seeker

The one who knows there is more to learn. He is me on the days I am honest, and he is you on the days you are, and he is neither of us exclusively.

He has no name on purpose. A name would make him someone to watch. Namelessness makes him somewhere to stand.

What he is never allowed to be is arrived. He is not drawn seated in mastery, or robed, or teaching from a chair. The moment he looks like a man who has finished, all of this collapses into advice.

Where it honestly comes from

He is invented. There is no man in Scripture he is drawn from, and he is not meant to be one — he is a place for the reader to stand.

The rule that never bends

Always mid-stride. There is exactly one exception — at the Crossroads, where he is stopped.

Why this one

Not written yet. This one is mine to tell and it stays empty until I do — a borrowed reason would defeat the point of the page.
